A promotional ceremony for Hartford Fire Chief Carlos M. Huertas is scheduled for Friday, March 21, 2014 at 1200

March 13, 2014 (Hartford, CT) --- A promotional ceremony for Hartford Fire Chief Carlos M. Huertas is scheduled for Friday, March 21, 2014 at 1200 in the atrium of City Hall located at 550 Main St. in Hartford, CT. Huertas was confirmed as the permanent Fire Chief for the City of Hartford and will serve as the City’s 37th Fire Chief. Carlos M. Huertas is a Hartford native and has been a firefighter since June 18, 1980. He was promoted to Lieutenant in November 1988 and then to the position of Captain in April 1998. On September 11, 2002, Huertas was promoted to Deputy Fire Chief. Chief Huertas accepted the position of Assistant Fire Chief of Emergency Services and Deputy Emergency Manager on February 14, 2011. On June 10, 2013, Chief Huertas was named the Interim Fire Chief of the City of Hartford Fire Department by Mayor Pedro E. Segarra.
Carlos attended Central Connecticut State University, Hartford State Technical College, Albertus Magnus College and Manchester Community College; focusing on fire related courses. He is presently enrolled at Columbia Southern University completing a Bachelor of Science degree in Fire Science. Huertas is a certified Fire Marshal by the State of Connecticut, which allows him to investigate fires, enforce the life safety code as adopted by Connecticut, and apply laws and regulations relative to hazardous materials.
Huertas served the Air National Guard for 20 years and retired with the rank of Tech Sergeant. As a member of the Air National Guard, Huertas was trained as a fire-rescue man and fire inspector with a special emphasis on fire investigations and hazardous materials. Huertas is certified by the U.S. Department of Defense as: Fire Officer 1, Fire Inspector, Fire Instructor, Airport Firefighter and Hazardous Materials Incident Commander. Huertas is also a self-proclaimed historian of the City of Hartford.
Carlos M. Huertas is an active member of the community and is one of the founding members of the Society of Latin American Firefighters. Huertas is past president of the Association. Carlos is the proud father of four beautiful children.
In addition to the Fire Chief’s swearing in, a badge pinning will take place for Fire Marshal Roger Martin and additional awards will be presented as well. Please join us.
